Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries
#PCAFConsultation | With the recent rise of African Swine Fever (ASF) cases this month, the National Banner Program Committee on Poultry and Livestock (NBPC on PL) recommended the mobilization of the Regional Agricultural and Fishery Councils (RAFCs) in monitoring and reporting ASF cases in their areas.During the Committee’s first quarter regular meeting on March 29, 2023, NBPC on PL Chairperson Dr. Arnulfo Frontuna expressed his support to the Bureau of Animal Industry’s (BAI) claim that early reporting and isolation of infected pigs remains to be the topmost solution to prevent the further spread of the virus.“It is the duty of the [city/provincial] vet to report all cases [of ASF] pero tayo din as the private sector should initiate the reporting,” he said.As of March 27, 2023, BAI reported that 84 cities and municipalities remain affected by ASF in the last 89 days.“Kaya nga, I urge din our RAFCs. We need to involve them now, gusto ko silang maging active in their area, especially those who are in the areas na may high cases ng ASF”, Dr. Frontuna added. The NBPC on PL’s recommendation will also involve the RAFCs in monitoring and reporting Avian Influenza cases to the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Offices, Local Government Units, and the Committee.
