The province of Occidental Mindoro is one of the top onion producers in the Philippines. It's the leading producer in the MIMAROPA region and fourth in the country.In 2021, provincial farmers grew 78,447,490 kg of onions, expecting to double that in 2022. However, the farmers are facing a big challenge: the high cost of seeds, fertilizer, pesticides, and fuel is cutting into their profits. Thus, to help the onion industry thrive, the national government was encouraged to step in and subsidize the cost of primary input supplies.Through the Provincial Agricultural and Fishery Council Occidental Mindoro Resolution No. 5, Series of 2022, this recommendation was adopted on May 5, 2022.----- PCAF is the policy-making arm of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
