#PCAFConsultation | "NOWADAYS, WHEN YOU offer coffee or cacao products to your consumers, you should have that health aspect to offer them.”This is the advice of Department of Trade and Industry-Export Marketing Bureau Assistant Director Jhino Ilano to the stakeholders and industry players in the second quarter meeting of the National Banner Program Committee on High Value Crops (NBPC on HVC)-Coffee and Cacao on May 17, 2022.Given the current trend of health consciousness among consumers, he explained that the future of coffee and cacao industries are heading towards the creation of “better-for-you” products, such as vegan, keto-friendly, and less-sugared varieties, and the use of sustainable packaging.In line with keeping updated on relevant industry data as well as streamlining support for coffee and cacao farmers, the Committee also discussed the status of the following matters: - development of a Coffee and Cacao Database System, as per the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries NBPC on HVC-Coffee and Cacao Resolution No.12, series of 2021; - registration of coffee and cacao farmers in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture; and - insurance coverage and requirements in availing crop insurance.Text and screenshot by Joy Camille LuzaFor more stories, visit www.pcaf.da.gov.ph.#OneDA#MobilizationAndEmpowermentOfPartners ...
